ALL ABOUT WAISTBEADS

WHAT ARE WAISTBEADS?

Waistbeads are a centuries old adornment, originating in Africa (specificially Ghana & Nigeria).  Beads made of glass, stone, shell, ceramic etc strung on cotton thread (traditionally), beading wire or stretchy cord and worn around the waist/hips.

Waistbeads aren't just jewelry.  They're "intentional adornments", as I like to call them.  A tangible reminder to be gentle with yourself.  Also a great way to wear your crystals as I add on corresponding stones to support your specific intentions.

WHY DO WOMEN ADORN THEMSELVES WITH WAISTBEADS?

Body Positivity

Adorning literally means "to make more beautiful".

Weight Management

Consider them a much less restrictive corset.  Your waistbeads will sit lower/looser as you lose inches, higher/tighter as you gain inches. Worn around the womb space, waistbeads have traditionally been used to support one's fertility journey. When we add on healing stones and incorporate color therapy, the purpose and symbolism is endless!

HOW TO MEASURE + TIE

MEASURING:

Be sure to measure on bare skin (not over clothing) for a true measurement.

You might measure around your belly button or higher/lower on your waist/hips depending on where you'd like them to sit.

If wearing to track weightloss, it's best to measure higher (belly button or higher) allowing room for them to sit lower as you lose inches.

TYING:

Wrap the beads around the part of your waist where you’d like them to sit.  Gently slide excess beads down, allowing room to begin tying your knots.

You’ll want to tie at least 5-7 knots to secure your strand.  Once done, trim away the extra thread.  You might add a tiny dab of the jewelry glue of your choosing to make sure the knot stays secure.

*Be sure to take your time, no need to rush.  Set/repeat the intentions you have for your strand while tying.
